DarEmar
is an independent multifaceted Syrian
organization dedicated to raising the standards of civic awareness in the
Arab world and increasing the Arab peoples' sense of empowerment and citizenship. For this
purpose, DarEmar organizes and implements a variety of
programs and projects, ranging from traditional and electronic publishing to
working with foreign journalists and researchers and acting as an
independent press agency, media outlet and think tank.
Moreover,
DarEmar is interested in promoting inter-cultural and inter-faith
dialogues on the regional and global levels, and is committed to
non-violence both as a philosophical approach and a mechanism for conflict
management and resolution.
To support these
activities, DarEmar maintains a "commercial" venture
of sorts, namely:
the Syrian-European marketing Clinic, an institution that offers various
services to the Syrian business community (including designing brochures,
newsletters, info packs and websites, and undertaking marketing and
promotional studies), and is willing to cooperate with
various international companies wishing to do business in Syria.
DarEmar also works
closely with a number of well-established international NGOs and donor
agencies, including, among others,
Pax Christi Nederland, which was the first international NGO to support
the activities and programs of DarEmar.
DarEmar
was officially established as a publishing house in 2003 by a number of
young Syrian professionals and intellectuals from various religious and
ethnic backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the country and the region
as a whole. Unofficially, the founders of DarEmar have been
working together as a group for many years now, operating along the same
lines outlined above.
